Senior Mechanical Engineer

 

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a motivated, creative, experienced engineer and leader with a focus on cutting edge mechanical engineering technologies and capabilities as they relate to power systems deployed in ocean environment, machine design, advanced materials such as composites, complex metal structures design, analysis and manufacturing, hydrodynamics, high voltage and high power packaging, to name a few. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is expected to work in a multi-disciplined team environment with highly qualified professionals. As such, he/she drives business priorities, program execution needs, and a systems view of problem solving while executing detailed engineering activities in their specific field of expertise. Works together with peers, the Mechanical Engineering Manager, Program Managers, Operations, purchasing and other managers and leaders within the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define mechanical system requirements, identify critical technical paths, and assess key technologies
  • Work with system engineers to develop product design specifications and performance requirements
  • Design mechanical components, modules, and systems for various assigned projects with a focus on meeting all performance requirements while designing for manufacturability (DFM) and design to cost (DTC)
  • Assess design performance and reliability using hand calculation, FEA, fatigue, statistics, etc.
  • Create product design validation approach and experimental setups
  • Support fabrication of prototype systems
  • Identify, quantify, and implement tools, methods, processes and equipment which improve the quality, reliability and productivity of the department
  • Participate in technical marketing and proposal preparation
  • Coordinate with the Program Managers to ensure a clear set of objectives, tasks and deliverables are defined and well understood within the framework of the business objectives associated with the program(s).
  • Accountability for delivering on all priorities, assignments, and program/business expectations 
  • Support the development and implementation of a Risk Management based system solutions, as defined by the high level program objectives and customer (internal/external/market) product/solution application 
  • Support and/or coordinate product and technology development reviews in accordance with the company’s Engineering development process (Stage Gate Process)
  • Ensure all technical documentation is generated and reviewed in accordance with company’s Engineering process, and Program/Customer contract deliverables/expectations
  •  Support the planning of all development 
  • Promote a safe working environment as well as a stringent focus on risk understanding, reporting and management, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design to Cost (DTC) without sacrificing quality and reliability.

REQUIRED DESIGN EXPERIENCE INCLUDES:

  • Prefer Power Systems/industrial background in heavy electro-mechanical and mechanical equipment and operations (heavy machinery, large welded structures, dynamics analysis, fatigue assessment, corrosion prevention, hydraulics, rigging, electric power generation and distribution, high-voltage packaging, and marine operations)
  • Prefer marine experience - spent time in the marine or offshore industry with knowledge of techniques, practices, vessels, equipment.
  • Demonstrated track record of challenging status-quo, continuously seeking business execution improvement (leaner, faster, and better)
  • Demonstrated track record of leadership, accountability, and ownership
  • Ability to think out of the box and work with executive management to define and implement business growth strategies
  • Software Capability- Ansys, SolidWorks (preferred), ProE, OrcaFlex, , MS Project, macro programming (C# / VB)

EDUCATION:

  • Degree in Mechanical, Structural, Marine Architecture engineering or related discipline (BS minimum, MS preferred) or
  • 10 years of hands-on engineering development experience

 

Electrical Engineering Manager

 

The Electrical Engineering Manager is a motivated, creative experienced engineer and leader with a focus on inter-department and multi-disciplined team coordination and cooperation. He/she drives business priorities, program execution needs and a systems view of problem solving while executing detailed engineering activities in their specific field of expertise. Works together with the Vice President of Engineering, Program Managers, Operations, purchasing and other managers and leaders within the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinate with and support the Vice President of Engineering to ensure department objectives, plans and priorities are communicated, understood and implemented.
    • Day to day task management and prioritization within the preset business and Engineering priorities
    • Management role with respect to certain projects/programs as needed
    • Support the development of resource plans, budgets, short, mid and long term engineering resource/expertise/skill/training needs
    • Support the development, implementation and sustainment of Engineering processes and procedures
    • Coordinate with the Program Managers to ensure a clear set of objectives, tasks and deliverables are defined and well understood within the framework of the business objectives associated with the program(s).
    • Accountability for delivering on all priorities, assignments, and program/business expectations 
    • Coordinate the development and implementation of a Risk Management based system solutions, as defined by the high level program objectives and customer (internal/external/market) product/solution application 
    • Coordinate product and technology development reviews in accordance with the company’s Engineering development process (Stage Gate Process)

    •  Support the planning of all development activities and ensure execution within defined schedule, budget, resource loading, milestones and deliverables
    • Support hiring and managing of contractors towards project/contract goals: Coordinate scope of work and technical requirements definition, as well as follow-up.
    • Promote a safe working environment as well as a stringent focus on risk understanding, reporting and management, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Design To Cost (DTC) without sacrificing quality and reliability.

REQUIREMENTS:

    • 10 years of hands-on engineering development experience

    • Prefer marine experience- spent time in the marine or offshore industry with knowledge of techniques, practices, vessels, equipment.
    • Demonstrated track record of challenging status-quo, continuously seeking business execution improvement (leaner, faster and better)
    • Demonstrated track record of leadership, accountability, and ownership
    • Ability to think out of the box and work with executive management to define and implement business growth strategies
    • Familiarity with UL, CE, IEEE and other standards
    • Software Capability: Power Systems/Electronics/Controls simulation and analysis tools such as Matlab, Simulink, Spice, OrCAd…or similar, MS Project, macro programming (C# / VB)

EDUCATION:

  • Electrical Engineering Degree with a focus on high voltage power systems, controls and power electronics (BS minimum, MS preferred)

 

Director, UK & Europe Business Development

 

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Report to Managing Director at Warwick location.
  • Lead the development of new and existing business opportunities within the UK and Europe.
  • Manage key customer and stakeholder relationships.
  • Identify, develop, negotiate and close bespoke agreements for new projects, funding and contracts.
  • Identify and open new channels to market and be influential in designing the commercial structures and services required to feed them.
  • Identify and develop innovative supply chain relationships.
  • Develop and be the custodian of commercial and financial models within the business for product development, contract agreements, operations, maintenance and costs and services.
  • Develop and lead the business planning for the Company.
  • Be responsible for policy development leading on responses to Government consultations and calls for information. Represent the Company as may be required on Trade Association committees, conferences etc.
  • Participate and be active in collaboration projects within the broader OPT Business Development Team.

Key skills and competences:

  • Entrepreneurial, can-do attitude with experience and flare in creating and closing complex deals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with experience of managing relationships, staff and clients at all levels.
  • Ability to be ‘bilingual’ in commercial and technical discussions.
  • High degree of awareness of UK energy policies and EU directives.
  • Knowledge on renewable energy technologies and the Market.
  • Strong visionary skills with the ability to turn ideas into real business and projects.
  • Mature commercial, contractual and negotiating skills with experience in managing capital, R&D and operating budgets.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Educated to degree level with a strong commercial and technical background.
  • Ideally suited to and motivated by fast moving and changing business environments with demanding delivery targets.
  • Proven coordination, image development and deal closing ability, preferably in the Renewable Technology Field.
  • Track record/experience in starting, developing and managing renewable business projects.
  • Experience in developing project/financial models and budgets.
  • Track record and experience working in team orientated structures.
  • Experience in investment raising for new technologies would be an advantage.
  • Second European language (Spanish, French) would be an advantage.
  • Ability to travel is essential.
  • Experience in site development, environmental studies and consenting processes will be desirable.
