European Marine Energy Centre, Orkney Isles, Scotland
In 2007, OPT was awarded a grant by the Scottish Government for the construction and installation of its PowerBuoy® technology at the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC), in Orkney Isles, Scotland. In 2008, OPT signed a Berth Agreement with EMEC that provides for the deployment and operation of OPT's PowerBuoys up to a maximum capacity of 2 MW. In addition to connection to the berth's dedicated 2 MW subsea cable, the Berth Agreement will allow OPT to sell power into the national grid.
Further details on EMEC can be found at www.emec.org.uk and the Decommissioning Plan can be viewed here.
