OPT's Scottish PowerBuoy on Cover of
April, 2011 Issue of Sea Technology

Sea Technology Magazine featured OPT's utility-scale PB150 PowerBuoy on the front cover of its April 2011 issue. This is the first time utility-scale PB150 has been on a front cover. Sea Technology's goal is to provide their "global audience with current information on the various segments of the worldwide marine/ocean industry through state-of-the-art and application articles, news columns, and staff reports".

Sea Technology has a monthly print circulation of 17,000 and is read worldwide in more than 110 countries. Sea Technology's digital version will be going online in June. Their website receives an average of 410,000 hits per month.

Dr. Philip R. Hart
Chief Technology Officer

Dr. Philip Hart has been the Chief Technology Officer of Ocean Power Technologies, Inc. since February 2, 2009. Dr. Hart joins OPT from Global Marine Systems, an international marine technology and engineering company. Its markets include telecommunications, renewable energy, oil and gas, and homeland security. Most recently, he has led Global Marine's research and development efforts, as well as the integration and development of new technology for introduction into the marketplace.

Previously, he worked as an engineering consultant on projects for clients that have included Statoil, Texaco and BP-Amoco.  

Dr. Hart is recognized internationally for his expertise in marine technology. His career includes extensive experience in developing and implementing technology, and leading teams of marine engineers on a wide range of marine and subsea development engineering projects. His inventions and developments have been successfully applied on an international basis on ships at sea and subsea vehicles and installations.

Dr. Hart holds a Doctorate degree and a Master's degree in Marine Technology from Cranfield University, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Technology from Plymouth University.

Charles F. Dunleavy
Senior VP, CFO

• Certified Public Accountant with an M.B.A. from Rutgers University

• Broad experience at executive levels in M&A, international finance, capital sourcing, and financial controls

• Experience at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Intermetrics (now Titan Corporation)

Michael Kelly
Vice President Operations

• B.S. degree in Marine Transportation from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy

• Prior to joining OPT, Assistant Director at the University of Washington where he lead the building of a $240 million cabled, deep ocean observatory off the coast of Oregon State.

• Other experience includes work with the US Navy Military Sealift Command, and work on various projects with ATT Bell Labs, Naval Research Labs, and the Applied Physics Lab at John Hopkins University. Promoted to Ship Captain, with command of the Cable Ship USNS Zeus.

• Subsequent experience included ATT Government Services Company, working with US Navy's Space and Warfare (SpaWar) Systems Command; Senior Director with ATT Submarine Systems, which became TYCO Telecommunications, then VSNL International (part of Tata Group).

• Extensive experience in marine operations, customer services, and running field service and operations groups.

Robert F. Lurie
Vice President North America Business Development and Marketing

• Experience includes a combination of business development, strategic planning, public and corporate finance, and public policy. An in-depth knowledge of the energy industry.

• Previously was Director of Business Development at Air Products & Chemicals, a $10 billion chemicals company. Led a business development project for a new energy storage technology with applications in renewable energy.

• Previously was VP Corporate Development and Treasurer at NUI Corporation, a NYSE natural gas utility company in New Jersey, leading the development of new growth strategies.

• Government experience as Chief of Strategic Planning for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, leading the creation of a long-term strategic capital plan for the NY/NJ region. Also was Director of the Office of Public Finance in the Treasury Department of the State of New Jersey.

• MBA in Finance and BA in Economics.

Deborah A. Montagna
VP and General Manager, Government Systems

• M.B.A. from LaSalle University, and A.A.S. degree in Electrical Engineering

• Extensive program management, technical operations, and contract experience in both commercial and government sectors

Angus Norman

Angus Norman has been the Chief Executive of Ocean Power Technologies Limited (“OPT Ltd”), the Company’s UK-based wholly-owned subsidiary, since June 4, 2009.  

Mr. Norman joins OPT from EDF Energy, where he held the position of Managing Director of Sustainable Solutions. He brings more than a decade of leadership experience in the energy and renewable energy generation sector as well as a long track record of acquisition, divestment and project development in the energy, transport, minerals and infrastructure markets.

Mr. Norman has received several awards for published papers and has presented to various institutions and conferences, including the prestigious “Henry Royce Memorial Lecture” (London, 1994). He is a Chartered Engineer and a Fellow of both the Institution of Engineering & Technology and Institution of Mining, Minerals and Metallurgy, and a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.  

Brian M. Posner
Chief Financial Officer

• Strong experience in capital raising and business development and has implemented financial reporting systems to meet internal and external requirements, including Sarbanes-Oxley

• Previously CFO of Power Medical Interventions, a publicly-traded medical device company and CFO of Pharmacopia, a publicly-traded biopharmaceutical company

• His career has also encompassed working at other early-stage and publicly-held businesses as well as serving on the audit staff of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, LLP where he had a diverse group of clients in the manufacturing, banking and natural resources sectors

• Certified Public Accountant holding a Master of Business Administration degree from Pace University and a Bachelors degree in accounting from Queens College in New York City

William B. Powers
VP, International Marine Operations

• Masters degree in Industrial Administration from Carnegie-Mellon University

• Skills in international manufacturing, procurement, and operations control

• Experience at Corning Glass and AMP (now Tyco Corporation)

Tim Stiven
Director, Business Development and Marketing for UK & Europe

• Spent a year as a Panasonic Trust Fellow at the University of Edinburgh researching the economic, regulatory, social and technical drivers behind the Ocean Renewable Energy Industry

• Led new market ventures in QinetiQ, the defense and security company, to diversify its business by exploiting its intellectual property and commercial relationships in the Energy & Environment market

• Developed a detailed understanding of the commercial and financial structures underpinning energy and infrastructure projects

• As a Marine Engineer Officer in the Royal Navy, he specialized in leading complex technology development programmes to meet the Navy’s future equipment requirements

• Has extensive front-line experience operating and maintaining ships and their equipment at sea and in deep dockyard repair

• Holds Masters of Science degrees in Naval Architecture, from University College London, and in Sustainable Energy Systems, from the University of Edinburgh

• He is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology

J. Victor Chatigny

J. Victor Chatigny has been a director of OPT since April 2009 and serves as President of Grampian Group, Inc. a medical sensor and sensor system consultancy.  From 1998 to 2009 Mr. Chatigny worked for Measurement Specialties, Inc., a company specializing in the design and manufacture of advanced technology-based sensors. Most recently as Group Vice President and General Manager, Mr. Chatigny has led one of Measurement Specialties’ sensors business groups having a broad international customer base in both industrial and government sectors, and manufacturing facilities in the US, China, and Europe.

Prior to commencing work at Measurement Specialties in 1998, Mr. Chatigny was a director of the sensors business unit of AMP Incorporated (acquired by Tyco Electronics Corporation) from 1993 to 1998, senior manager of the Piezo Film Sensors group at Pennwalt Corporation from 1978 to 1993, and previously worked at Corning Incorporated.

Mr. Chatigny holds a Masters of Business Administration degree from The American University, and a Master of Science degree in Industrial Management and Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering & Management from Clarkson University. He served in the US Army Corps of Engineers as a Captain in the 11th Engineer Battalion.

Paul F. Lozier
Director

Paul F. Lozier has been a director of OPT since October 2007. He is a private investor and provides corporate finance counsel to a variety of medium-sized corporations. From 1977 to 1996, Mr. Lozier worked for Merrill Lynch & Co. and served as a Managing Director and senior investment banker specializing in energy finance. He was a director of Somerset Hills Bancorp and served on its audit committee. He was also director of Logical Design Solutions, Inc. and served on its audit committee. In addition, he has served as a director and head of the finance committees of local charities. Mr. Lozier holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School and a Bachelors degree in Political Science from Yale University.
