Marine Operations Coordinator

Purpose and scope of the role: To assist in the planning and logistics of site development in the UK and Mainland Europe. To assist in compliance with UK legislation for project development, including the production of project procedures.  To take a lead role in the organisation of shore and marine logistics with regards to testing, installation and commissioning of OPT’s products for wave energy conversion and power transmission.

Reports To: Marine Development Engineer

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Development and co-ordination of site logistics;
  • Support project managers in operations to move and assemble marine components;
  • Assist in the compliance with CDM and other UK legislation;
  • Identify and assist in the production of operating procedures;
  • Assist in the transportation, installation and commissioning of PowerBuoy system and arrays.

Key skills and competences:

  • Practical marine knowledge;
  • Good communication skill in a marine environment;
  • Boat handling skill and marine operations experience;
  • Cool thinker in dynamic marine situations, with a practical understanding of health and safety in the marine environment;
  • A practical understanding and experience of marine commissioning;
  • Skilled in the use of computer based systems and tools;
  • Strong team player/leader; and
  • Effective communicator.

Qualifications/experience:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent;
  • Marine qualifications – to Master or Chief officer;
  • Experience in shipyard type environments;
  • Experienced in managing marine sub-contractors and consultants;
  • Experience in managing client expectations and requirements;
  • Experience of managing and delivering to tight deadlines;
  • Previous experience of marine legislation and UK CDM regulations advantageous;
  • A working knowledge of Microsoft Project desirable.
