OPT has years of experience deploying wave energy devices and power cables in four countries on three continents, and our staff offers the most expertise in the marine energy industry. Our breadth of experience makes OPT's Marine Energy Infrastructure (MEI) team well-positioned to design and manage the balance of plant needed for marine energy projects. 

OPT-MEI is adept at managing the full supply chain and logistics of people and equipment necessary to ensure a successful deployment and grid connection. Our staff has managed all types of vessels needed for installation of energy devices, cables, and anchors. We are also skilled at risk analysis and mitigation for each phase of the project, including weather risk.

OPT-MEI can provide operation and maintenance services post-deployment, using our logistical expertise and proprietary Human Machine Interface (HMI) software – called PB-VueTM – for monitoring and control.

OPT-MEI has secured permits for projects worldwide including in the US, Australia and Europe. We are also adept at building broad stakeholder support.

OPT provides project developers and device manufacturers with a turnkey solution for monitoring and maintaining marine energy devices and facilities, including:

  • monitoring and control
  • life-cycle maintenance planning and execution
  • spares management
  • permit compliance

OPT is highly knowledgeable in the risk management that is critical to the success of marine energy projects. Due to our extensive experience, our staff understands the intricacies of property, liability, and pollution insurance for marine projects. We can help manage Workers' Compensation, Jones Act, and Longshoremen and Maritime Employers Liability.

We can institute procedures for effective Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) management. We also perform risk assessments and contingency planning for each stage of deployment and operation to identify and reduce risks and future costs.
