Commissioning Engineer

Purpose and scope of the role: Responsibility for the testing, installation and commissioning of OPT’s products for wave energy conversion and power transmission as well as any other ‘balance of plant’ equipment. Making sure that all aspects of safety and environment have been considered.

Location: Warwick

Reports To: Engineering Manager

Main duties and responsibilities:

  • Testing and commissioning of OPT’s products such as the PowerBuoy® and power transmission products;
  • Support others on assembly and test;
  • Possible test of prototype electrical and electromechanical systems;
  • Identify testing requirements and procedures;
  • Manage build, test, commissioning and maintenance of system including safety aspects; and
  • Produce technical documentation to verify design, build, test, installation and maintenance process and results.

Key skills and competences:

  • Experienced in the testing and commissioning of electrical products, preferable of a large/complex nature;
  • A good grounding in mechanical products such as welded steel structures;
  • Knowledge of manufacture and/or assembly of technical products;
  • Experience in hydraulics product system development and/or other power take-off systems desirable;
  • Skilled in the use of computer based systems and tools;
  • Strong team player/leader; and
  • Effective communicator.

Qualifications/experience:

  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in an Engineering discipline
  • Experience of power generation/utilities;
  • Experience of electrical generators, converters, transformers, switchboards, subsea cables and onshore substations;
  • Offshore experience an advantage but not a requirement;
  • Renewable projects experience desirable; and
  • Experience of managing and delivering to tight deadlines.
