Senior Mechanical Engineer

 

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is a motivated, creative, experienced engineer and leader with a focus on cutting edge mechanical engineering technologies and capabilities as they relate to power systems deployed in ocean environment, machine design, advanced materials such as composites, complex metal structures design, analysis and manufacturing, hydrodynamics, high voltage and high power packaging, to name a few. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is expected to work in a multi-disciplined team environment with highly qualified professionals. As such, he/she drives business priorities, program execution needs, and a systems view of problem solving while executing detailed engineering activities in their specific field of expertise. Works together with peers, the Mechanical Engineering Manager, Program Managers, Operations, purchasing and other managers and leaders within the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define mechanical system requirements, identify critical technical paths, and assess key technologies
  • Work with system engineers to develop product design specifications and performance requirements
  • Design mechanical components, modules, and systems for various assigned projects with a focus on meeting all performance requirements while designing for manufacturability (DFM) and design to cost (DTC)
  • Assess design performance and reliability using hand calculation, FEA, fatigue, statistics, etc.

REQUIREMENTS:

Electrical Engineering Manager

 

The Electrical Engineering Manager is a motivated, creative experienced engineer and leader with a focus on inter-department and multi-disciplined team coordination and cooperation. He/she drives business priorities, program execution needs and a systems view of problem solving while executing detailed engineering activities in their specific field of expertise. Works together with the Vice President of Engineering, Program Managers, Operations, purchasing and other managers and leaders within the business.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Coordinate with and support the Vice President of Engineering to ensure department objectives, plans and priorities are communicated, understood and implemented.
    • Day to day task management and prioritization within the preset business and Engineering priorities
    • Management role with respect to certain projects/programs as needed
    • Support the development of resource plans, budgets, short, mid and long term engineering resource/expertise/skill/training needs

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Assist with the drafting and tracking of routine minutes and consents for Board meetings and assembly of Board of Directors mailings along with limited investor relations interaction
    • Assistance with the preparation of and compliance with NDA’s and MOU’s and monitoring compliance and expiration

Senior Procurement Manager

 

PROCUREMENT. This position has the primary leadership role in developing, executing, and complying with OPT’s procurement policies, procedures and related internal controls. The Purchasing role includes identifying, qualifying and establishing vendor relationships, particularly near potential OPT deployment and fabrication locations in the U.S., Europe, Australia Japan, and elsewhere in the world as required, contracting for services (including ocean deployments), materials and subsystems in support of all the Company’s operations. Many of the procurement activities support the building of prototypes and early commercial products, with an eye toward transition to full production. Must combine strategic orientation and hands-on tactical experience to provide start-to-finish purchasing support for the Engineering, Business Unit and Project Manager teams, and others to ensure a smooth, efficient and timely project execution process. Working closely with various internal departments, ensures that procurements meet the Company standards for budget, schedule, quality and pricing. These goals will be met through the entire process from Request for Proposal, issuance of Purchase Orders, maintenance of PO records in software database, delivery tracking, vendor relationship management, receipt of goods and services, and materials returns to vendors. Preparation of purchasing documents such as Requisitions and Purchase Orders will be done in compliance with related Company policies and procedures, including Signature Authorization policy. Establishing vendor relationships and multiple sources for same items are key to OPTs success in procuring materials and components in a timely and cost effective manner. This position is part of the Configuration Management team, with responsibility for ensuring that version control and tracking for product documentation, materials and components is maintained. Working closely with the business units, engineering and operations teams, this position helps to ensure Quality Control and Assurance standards are established and maintained for all procured materials, components, services and assemblies, including incoming inspection procedures and handling of returns to suppliers. Develops a geographically diverse network of Third Party inspectors with skill sets (Example of weld inspection, paint inspection...etc) which enhance the OPT quality inspection program. Provides traceability of components to ensure that the correct revision is produced from the correct design. Facilitates collaboration amongst key stakeholders, to reduce cost and delivery interval, yet maintain levels of quality.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • The administration and maintenance of the purchasing software tool utilized by the Company to generate, document and track purchasing transactions. May evaluate proposed software or software enhancement for feasibility.
    • Retrieving, reviewing and analyzing purchasing documents for SOX (Sarbanes-Oxley) requirements.
    • Maintaining the Company Intellectual Property records from a record-keeping standpoint. This includes maintenance of records for all patents and trademarks (issued, pending and to be applied for) including due dates for payment of maintenance fees.
    • Serve as liaison and coordinator of meetings between external Patent Counsel and the Engineering team, and generation of Company non-disclosure and inventions agreements for signature by the Company and external counter-parties.

REQUIREMENTS:

    • At least 5 years experience as a purchasing manager (8 plus years of total experience) in high value procurement and subcontracts, particularly for electronics, electromechanical devices and large metal fabrications and structures
    • Background in maritime charters desirable
    • Strong negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills
    • Experience in government contracting including FAR and ITAR is desirable
    • Demonstrated experience in Configuration Management in a manufacturing environment
    • Ability to bridge between Company business units, Engineering and Operations groups and vendors to ensure a common understanding of what is designed, procured, built and tested
    • Demonstrated experience in Quality Control and Assurance in a manufacturing and production environment. Ability to work with vendors to establish quality standards and protocols which enhance the reliability of our products
    • Ability to work well with others, complete tasks with minimal supervision, and manage risks
    • Ability to tailor communication style to difference audiences, and to exercise good judgment in frequency and nature of communication to different parties (senior management, team members, vendors, etc.)
    • Computer skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint
    • Experience with ePMX or similar purchasing system is desirable

Senior Electrical Engineer

 

The Senior Electrical Engineer is a motivated, creative experienced engineer with a focus on Developing, designing and testing power management and conversion systems for Ocean Wave applications. He/she drives a systems view of problem solving while executing detailed engineering activities in their field of expertise. Wors together with peers in the same discipline and/or other engineering fields, managers, and program managers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Lead/support the design, development and validation of power conversion components, controls software and hardware, subsystems and systems
    • Carry out design and troubleshooting activities such as: Circuit design, assembly and test of circuit boards
    • Carry out the layout, assembly and test of electronic circuit boards and electrical systems
    • Create, update and maintain/manage electrical schematics and design documentation
    • Select electrical/electronics components, manage drawing and schematic database, develop and maintain Bill Of Materials (BOM) and support components and HW purchase.
    • Interface with manufacturing/operations and suppliers/vendors in support of assembly/production and procurement activities
    • Develop assembly, integration and testing plans and procedures
    • Lead and support system assembly, integration and testing
